A Message from the Head of School

As Baldwin School’s head of school, it is a pleasure to share my insights about Baldwin with you.

This is an exceptional time to be part of the Baldwin School, a pre- preK-12, co-ed, English- speaking independent school. As we move through the 21st century, we are proud to provide a secure sense of place for our young people in this ever-changing and unpredictable world. Along with instilling confidence and esteem with our meaningful academic program and extra curricula, we are confident that we are meeting the challenges of constructing a foundation of knowledge and understanding that will help our students to adapt to and succeed in any situation that they may encounter in their lifetimes. Theirs will be a lifetime of exponential change. It is also our hope, that when you visit our campus, you will see faculty and students enjoying comfortable exchanges: some of them playful, others intellectual. In short, we know that you will find a school community, on a 23-acre campus, where inspiration and goodness go hand in hand on a daily basis.

We are also proud of our broad extracurricular program that balances seriousness with fun. We offer 14 varsity sports and 43 competitive teams from 4th grade upward through the 12th grade. Our fine arts department offers wonderful opportunities in drama, music, drawing, painting, graphic design, and pottery (all of these can be taken as an academic class or as an after school activity). We offer formal classes in robotics, as well as informal opportunities of robotics in our afterschool activities. In addition, we are the only school on the island to offer a vast array of online courses to our upper school students by way of our Virtual High School.
As you can probably tell, Baldwin is a very special and nurturing school. It is a place where students can experience success, and forge meaningful relationships with their peers and their teachers. And it is a place where many special people – students, parents, teachers, administrators and staff members - come together to bring joy and a sense of accomplishment to everyday living.

I hope that you will visit and experience our school first hand. You will see a group of people working, creating, and playing together with the shared goals of achieving consequential lives for themselves and for others. We know that deciding on an independent school is no easy choice; but we are confident, that if you come for a visit, you will understand why we are so very proud of our school.

Albert R. Cauz
Head of School
