Dear Parents:

With this letter you will find enclosed a letter from our PTO President, Mrs. Tish Grosek, and the 2008-2009 detailed school calendar.

In bringing you up-to-date, as we begin to approach the end of the second semester and the school year I want to thank, first and foremost, the PTO for its valuable support throughout the school year. In these past four years, I have had the privilege of having two PTO Presidents both of whom - Christie Curie and Tish Grosek, served for TWO YEARS. This has given us a lot of things one can often only hope for - continuity, great cooperation, and knowledge of what matters in having great programs.

Tish Grosek and her team have done a superb job this year, and I thank and applaud them all, along with the many parents who have volunteered their time at so many of our excellent community activities and fundraisers. The report from Mrs. Grosek reflects on these accomplishments and the many ways in which parents, faculty and staff, and students have worked together for common goals! I join Tish Grosek in welcoming the new PTO President for 2008-2009, Mrs. Lynn Perez-Valle, and her new PTO Board (please note that the VP position still needs to be filled!!).

Along with this, I want to encourage you again to frequently check the Baldwin School website
(www.baldwin-school.org) as we constantly update it with news from all parts of the school - most recently, for example, the splendid student fundraiser for the theater, the Fashion Show, planned in record time by the NHS and the MS/US Student Council just before the spring holiday. Our recent NHS Induction Ceremony recognized this year's NHS officers and members, and inducted the new NJHS and NHS members. At that occasion, I mentioned the excellent university acceptances of this year's senior class which is also detailed on the website and will appear in EL NUEVO DIA this week- their achievements are particularly noteworthy in light of the growing competitiveness of applications to selective universities recently described in a NEW YORK TIMES article which is also on the website for your information.

I should also mention again the tremendous successes of our math teams and the recognition of our students as Hispanic Scholars, National Merit Finalists, and Presidential Scholars. Most recently Michelle Mendiola-Pla was named a Gates Millennium Scholar Finalist.

Plans for next school year are progressing well, although some positions still need to be filled which is presently in progress. Our campaign for leadership gifts for the theater is doing well and I will report on this in some detail at the ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING scheduled for May 6, 2008 @ 7:00 p.m. in the Pennock Field House. This meeting is important and I ask you to place it in your agenda - annual reports will be given at this occasion by the Chairman of the Board, Mr. Douglas Pennock, the Board Treasurer, Mr. Tony Casellas, and myself. You will receive a separate invitation and reminder shortly.

My best wishes for the remainder of the semester - there are many events to look forward to, especially of course the advancement ceremonies for Kindergarten, the 6th and 8th grades, and the Senior Graduation.

Sincerely,
Dr. Gunther Brandt
Head of School

The price of admission includes: unlimited access to 32 bowling lanes, unlimited refreshments and buffet, bowling shoes (although attendants may bowl in tennis shoes), live entertainment, and automatic participation in the night’s raffle with each ticket purchased. This event is for the enjoyment of the entire Baldwin community and therefore, doors will be closed to the general public.

Tickets are on sale now, and the pre-order forms have been sent home. If for any reason, families did not receive their order forms, copies may be obtained from each of the school offices or by calling the Development Office at 787-720-2421 ext. 244/250.

The Elementary Student Council is very eager and willing to work very hard, but they need our support to ensure the success of this event, the first of its kind at Baldwin School. Let’s help make this 40 th Anniversary Celebration one to remember.
