Baldwin Model U.N Team
Best Overall Performing School from Puerto Rico

While many looked forward to the highly anticipated Valentine’s Day long weekend, our Baldwin Model United Nations team traveled to Washington D.C. to represent us at the North American International Model United Nations Conference (NAIMUN XLVII) hosted by the School of Foreign Relations at Georgetown University. For the past 47 years, NAIMUN has been the premiere high school Model U.N. competition, which is why the feat that our students accomplished over that weekend, despite the adverse weather conditions, is amazing.

Schools ranged from all over the United States, China, Japan, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico, in total amounting to approximately 2,000 delegates from around the world. Of our 14 member student team, 7 students managed to receive awards in the top 4 places within their respective committees, the rest received excellent commentaries and perfect scores in their position papers. In total, our Baldwin School team outperformed all the other teams also traveling from Puerto Rico, which included: Saint John’s, Tasis Dorado and Marista.

Our delegates not only prepare to defend their specific points of view in debate situations, but very much like the actual United Nations Organization, they gear up to manage and address hypothetic crisis situations presented to them at any point throughout the competition. For some delegates, these situations presented themselves in the middle of the night. Our students were prepared, poised, and centered throughout the entire competition. According to the Model U.N. advisor, Mrs. Erin Moran, they were the best behaved and definitely an example for others to follow.

We are very proud to congratulate the following members for their amazing achievement:

Rodrigo González - Committee: Mexican Cabinet of Felipe Calderón. He represented the Secretary of Public Safety. He received Outstanding Delegate, 1 st place in a committee of 20 delegates.

Roberto Fernández - Committee: Mexican Cabinet of Felipe Calderón. He presented the Secretary of Energy. He received distinguished delegate, 3rd place in a committee of 20 delegates.
