Baldwin School Commencement Ceremony
Baldwin School held its Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 30th at the San Juan Hotel and Casino. It was an eventful afternoon for many reasons. First and foremost, the class of 2008 is Baldwin School's 40th anniversary class. We were all delighted to have Dr. Rollin Baldwin, one of the school's founders, honor us with his presence. Our esteemed colleague and elementary school teacher, Mrs. Carola Murray, retired this year after 35 years of service to Baldwin School and was the ceremony's special guest speaker. On this anniversary celebration, we could not exclude Mrs. Gloria Badía who served Baldwin for 37 years. Her daughter Cecilia was present to accept a recognition in her name. Finally, this year we had the first second generation student to graduate from Baldwin School. David Segarra is the son of alums and high school sweethearts Oriol Segarra '79 and Michelle Beauchamp '81.
Our M/U School Principal Mrs. Laura Maristany addressed her closing remarks to the audience and the graduating class of 2008. This was an emotive and special occasion for her since her son, Luis Maristany was amongst the graduates. She has watched this class grow and mature throughout the years, and now that they venture into a world outside of Baldwin, she proceeded to give her motherly advice. Amongst the most memorable ones were to "always remember to say please and thank you, always wear clean underwear for you never know when you might have some accident and need to be examined by a doctor, but the most important advice of all is to always remember to call your mother," to which the all in the audience enthusiastically chuckled.
The attendants then proceeded to view the traditional graduation video, following which the Class of 2008 exited the hall in their characteristic fashion; to the sounds and rhythms of percussion instruments.
