Alumni Reunion in DC

Thank you Letter (from Alumni Director)

In addition to helping Baldwin maintain communication with our alums abroad, mini reunions are being organized to help the alums stay in touch with each other.

As you can see, the reunion in DC did just that.

I would also like to express my gratitude to our host, Kevin Shirley, and Ana Montalvo '92 for making the reunion possible.

Thank you Letter (from Henry Garcia)

Trudy,

Thank you for orchestrating these mini reunions. Although small in attendance, I feel that this one was a real success. It gave me the opportunity to reunite with one of my classmates after 23 years. Unbeknownst to me, he has been living only minutes away during the last seven years. It has also provided the opportunity for us to reunite with another one of our classmates who is visiting the area next week.

Before closing, I also want to extend a special thank you to Kevin for hosting this reunion. He did a wonderful job.

Take care,
Henry Garcia '83

Henry Garcia describes a Reunion-Inspired get-together!

First things first... Very special thanks to Mike Colon for orchestrating this event and to Claire and Vince Loparo for opening their home to make this possible.

It was the day before Easter and a beautiful early spring day in Virginia. Flowers and trees were blooming everywhere and green decorated the landscape. After months of dreary winter weather, this day seemed God sent for a Baldwin alumni reunion. Mike Colon ('83) and his sister Claire ('82) organized a Saturday morning brunch at her home in Lovettsville, VA. While Claire prepared a delicious feast to feed the estranged group and several other family members, Mike was delivering his family and the other alumni Henry Garcia ('83), Vianka Garcia ('82), and Peter Candelario ('83) aboard his Super-man's mini-van. Peter, Mike, and Claire had kept in touch over the years, but Henry and Vianka had lost touch and were reuniting with them after over twenty years. Peter, currently residing in Georgia, was in Virginia to attend Air Force training. Claire's country home set a wonderful stage for the reunion. We ate around a large table on the back porch while enjoying the fresh air and the view overlooking their private pond - Mike's favorite fishing spot. Although two decades have aged us, our memories of Baldwin are as fresh as yesterday. We fondly refer to it as the Baldwin Country Club. Stories of the 1983 fuga were in abundance. How we remember anything about the fuga is a mystery to me. Claire brought out her yearbook and it helped us recall chance encounters and stories we had heard about other classmates. Memories of being young, doing crazy things, and of living in Puerto Rico dominated our conversations. This reunion, sparked by the DC mini reunion, was really a wonderful experience for all.
