Golf Escapade 2015 was a success!

This year’s Annual Golf Escapade Tournament was held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Trump International Golf & Country Club.  It was a picture perfect day at the golf course which allowed our 93 players to have an excellent time. The Awards Luncheon Ceremony again took an unexpectedly fun twist when an impromptu auction was started by one of our participants.  We sincerely thank all of our faithful friends, sponsors, and collaborators for their continuous support. Despite being a turbulent economic time for Puerto Rico, with everyone’s collaborative effort, the event raised $50,000 for the Scholarship Program and the Summer Institute for public school teachers and students.

The Golf Escapade tournament, organized by the Advancement and Development Office, is our annual event to benefit these two incentives.  The Programs were established to provide students with limited financial resources the opportunity to receive a better quality education.

The Scholarship Program, established in 1998, has provided talented, deserving students with limited financial resources the opportunity to maximize their potential through the promise of a better future. Now, seventeen years later, our program continues to thrive, and today 9 students are taking advantage of the opportunities that a Baldwin education can provide. There is no bigger testament to this than the fact that since the program’s inception, we have graduated several students. This year, two 7th Graders were added to the Program, and the Class of 2015 will graduate two more!

Currently, most of our scholarship students have maintained High Honor and Honor Roll status while also being a part of numerous co-curricular activities such as: National Junior Honor Society, National Honor Society, Student Council, Student Government, Athletics, Model United Nations, Math & Science Clubs, Drama, Band and many more.

In 2013 The Baldwin School Summer Institute for public school teachers and students was created to affect change in our public educational system, providing a professional development opportunity for local public school teachers. The program also reinforces their students' aptitudes and further enhances their knowledge in English, science, and math over the course of three years. This past summer, thirty third grade students from neighboring public schools were chosen to participate in the Program. They all attended and completed our five-week summer workshop successfully. This summer a new group of third graders will be participating in the workshop, while the same students will return as fourth graders, and in the subsequent summer as fifth graders, to continue their studies in these three key indicator subjects.
