Elementary School

In Baldwin’s Elementary School we strive to create learning environments that support and develop our students’ curiosity, enthusiasm and agency as learners.  Throughout elementary grades (1st - 5th), students strengthen their academic, athletic, artistic, and collaborative skills. Learners explore, experiment, read, write, perform, research, create, present - and so much more.
Elementary Volcano Experiment

Emphasis is placed on writing, reading, and mathematical proficiency. Subject areas are explored through learning experiences that develop conceptual and critical thinking in a hands-on, inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning. Most learning experiences take place in English, and our Spanish teachers are devoted to empowering students to also strive for mastery in oral and written Spanish. As a result, students become effective communicators in both languages. Our faculty’s focus on creating balanced learning environments that provide both high expectations and plenty of support foster a passion for learning that students take with them well beyond their Elementary years.

Students are invited to participate in a wide variety of activities, events, teams and clubs. There are opportunities for creative expression both during and after the school day through our Visual and Performing Arts programs. Important events include Art Week, Music Fest and Dance Fest among others.  For students in upper Elementary School, Student Council offers another way to develop leadership, civic responsibility and take action. Our Athletic Department’s developmental approach provides student athletes with choices for participation in super mini (2nd - 4th) and mini (4th  - 5th) sports.

Our faculty works diligently to balance a rigorous academic curriculum, while also fostering a sense of belonging to the Baldwin community for all our learners.  Activities such as monthly Town Hall Meetings, Spirit Week in the fall, Fun Day in the spring, the annual Family Day, and ongoing community service projects, unite the school and encourage family involvement.  A sense of identity continues to grow as students construct meaning about the attributes of the IB Learner Profile, and as they develop the attitudes to become lifelong learners.

Dribbles

Dribbles

Dribbles is an important part of our Elementary School experience. He joined our community about 12 years ago as a gift from one of our families. He has since outgrown his initial shelter in one of our 4th grade classrooms and now Dribbles contently roams his roomy enclosure in the Elementary courtyard. He enjoys the company when students and teachers come visit to say hi or watch from a safe distance how he enjoys his fresh vegetables.
