2008 Baldwin School Basketball and Soccer Tournament Recap!!!

This past weekend, our campus was host to two great activities: The basketball Invitational Tournament and the Girls Outdoor Soccer Invitational Tournament. The highlight of the weekend was the awesome cooperation by Mother Nature as she spared the eternally wet campus of rain throughout the weekend. We also would like to thank all of the students, parents, teachers and staff that helped make the tournament a success. Without the sacrifice of our volunteers, these activities would not be easy to carry out. Thank you very much!!!!!

In Soccer, our JV Girls were runner-up to champion Academia Maria Reina. They team led throughout the game on a goal by Paola Llerandi, but allowed two goals in the second half and let victory slip through their hands. We are extrememly proud of the girls for their courage and spirit versus an opponent we had never seen. Great job!!!!

In Basketball, our Junior Varsity boys saved the weekend by making it to the finals. They beat Commonwealth and Academia Menonita to earn the berth in the championship game. Their opponent was league leader and undefeated Academia Perpetuo Socorro. The stage was set and with a loud Baldwin fan base in the bleachers our BasketBULLS shocked the crowd with an electrifying victory in the finals! We are extremely proud of this accomplishment since the team has had to reinvent itself with new additions to the roster. It shows when the players listen to the coach and play with commitment, effort, spirit and courage good things do happen. We have a great group of athletes in our school, we need to continue to understand the importance of preparation, responsibility and dedication to the team. Great job by the Bulls!!!!!

January 2008 Sports News

As the New Year and semester begins our Bulls' teams continue with PRHSAA and LAMEPI action.

In Basketball our Girls teams have posted quick wins and are preparing for our tournament and hopefully earn playoff berths. The Boys are surviving a rash of injuries and bad luck to strive for continued success. Our Swimming teams have begun league meets and the JV Girls posted a first place finish in the first meet at the San Juan Natatorium. Great job by the Swimming Bulls!!!! Our tennis teams are also showing great progress, but continue to battle bad weather and match cancellations.

In soccer the varsity Bulls beat Robinson 8-0 and also had beat Palmas 4-0 previously. The JV Bulls beat palmas 2-0. Awesome job by Coach Taylor and her team!!!!

In Mini Sports, the swimmers and the new Baseball team gear up for league action next week. Good luck to both squads as they try and capture glory!!

Stay tuned to our updates, so if you can't come out and support the teams, you can still be informed.

Always remember…..GO BULLS!!!!

PS - It would be nice if you could come out and support the teams. We all have busy schedules, but the student/athletes would be very proud to play/ perform in front of their peers and teachers!

December 2007 Sports News

As we close the sememster we have had some great performances by our Fall teams and are beginning Winter league seasons with some success as well.

Our Fall seasons ended with the Boys Varsity volleyball team reaching the PRHSAA quarterfinals after winning the B Division regular season championship. The JV Boys volleyball team finished second in B Division play and reached the first round of PRHSAA playoffs. Our Varsity Boys Soccer team ended the year as champions of their Division and reached the second round of the PRHSAA playoffs. Our JV Boys Soccer team finished as UNDEFEATED CHAMPIONS of their division and made it to the PRHSAA playoffs. The Juvenile Boys volleyball team made the postseason as well and showed continued improvement throughout the year. The Girls Juvenile volleyball team finished in second place in the regular season and reached the PRHSAA playoff semi-final round. A feat set up by an incredible playoff upset over Marista.

In JV Girls volleyball Rosybel Rodriguez earned All-Star nomination for the PRHSAA. Ginna Malley earned it for the Varsity Girls. In Boys Ivan Matos, Fernando Campos, Steven Menda and Danny Irizarry were voted to the All-Star game. Ivan Matos and Fernando Campos earned All-Alliance status as well. In Boys Varsity Soccer William Nader, Ivansky Rosario, Charlie Laracy and Enrique Lugo earned the nomination. In JV Boys Soccer Gerardo Sanchez and Felipe Copete received All-Star nominations. Great job by all of the athletes nominated.

In Cross Country, Ginna Malley finished the regular season as the league's third best runner and placed sixth in the championship race, despite running with an injured leg! The Juvenile girls team was spearheaded by Alexandra Blasalobre who came in 9th place and Paola Llerandi who finished in the top 20.

In Mini sports the Boys Cross Country team finished champions of the regular season and the girls finished in second place in the regular season and won the Championship meet!

In Mini Tennis our boys won the league championship and currently the Mini Boys Soccer team is pursuing a playoff berth. Good luck to the Soccer Bulls!!

As the Winter seasons are beginning our Boys Basketball teams both currently sport 2-2 records. The Girls Soccer teams are both 2-0 and the Girls Basketball teams are 1-1.

In 2008, Varsity Tennis, Mini Swimming and Mini Baseball begin their seasons.

It has been a great beginning to our 2007-2008 school year. Good luck to all of the students in the finals. We hope that you all have a restful and spiritual Holiday season. We look forward to seeing you supporting all of our teams.

Juvenile VB Results

In last night's action, our girls defeated Marista, yes MARISTA, in three sets to advance to the PRHSAA semi-finals. I believe it is the first victory over Marista in girls volleyball. We are extrememly proud of our girls and wish them luck in Thursday's Semi vs the winner of today's qtr-final. The game will be at Cupeyville on Thursday and we hope to see everyone cheering our girls onto victory.

Our Boys season ended yesterday, but not without a fight. The second set finished with a 22-25 score against first seeded Perpetuo. The boys season was a huge surprise, but their hard work and determination helped them reach the playoffs this season. Congratulations go out to them.
