Our own Sarita Laracy, 10th grade, is participating for the Puerto Rico National U-17 soccer team in international competition. We are very proud of Sara and wish her the very best in the international competition to be held from Nov 14-18. Show the world what a Baldwin Bull is capable of doing!
Sports News for October
As the fall seasons begin to end, we have had many great performances by our Baldwin bulls.
In Boys Varsity volleyball, the Bulls finished first in their section and seeded second in the Division with a 12-1 record. Voted into the PRHSAA All-Star team were: Ivan Matos, Fernando Campos, Danny Irizarry and Steven Menda. Ivan Matos and Fernando Campos were also selected to the All-Alliance team. It is a great honor bestowed on our athletes and we are very proud of their achievement this season.
The Varsity VolleyBulls play in the league quarter-finals on Thursday October, 18 at 7:15 pm at Colegio San Jose in Rio Piedras.
The JV Boys volleyball team also reached the playoffs with a 9-4 record. This team has shown increased level of play during the season and their accomplishments have been noted by everyone who ventures to the PFH on any afternoon. Carlos Bonnin, Francisco Davila and Joey Berezdivin have been voted into the PRHSAA All-Star team by the league coaches. We congratulate our boys for a great regular season.
The JV team will play Colegio San Ignacio on Wednesday October, 17 at 3:30pm at Wesleyan Academy in Guaynabo . Good luck to our Bulls as they take on the other division in the exciting inter-division playoffs!!!!
The Girls volleyball teams have also concluded their seasons. The JV girls played hard all season and with one week in the season still had a shot at the playoffs. Rosibel Rodriguez and Gabriela Pabon have been the steadiest players throughout the season. We are very proud of all of the girls during this season.
Our Varsity girls have been a joy to watch play and show their sportsmanship and spirit all season. It was very rewarding to witness the match versus San Antonio Abad. Their determination was witnessed by all of the fans that stayed until almost 6:30 and to see their expressions of relief, happiness and joy were a pleasure to watch. Our pride as Bulls has never been stronger than on that night. Ginna Malley, Magda Jordi and Carolina Bonnin have provided many outstanding moments for the Bulls this season.
Both Cross-Country teams are looking for top ten team finishes in their respective divisions as the final Championship race is set for Friday October 26 on the grounds of the UPR. The Girls Varsity continues to have Ginna Malley as their leader, while the Boys Varsity had a resurgence during the last race with Danny Irizarry and Frankie Llado posting great individual times. The Boys Juvenile team expects Axel Rivera, GianCarlo Medina and Dante Scavola to also impress during this final race. The Girls Juvenile team should also be a force in the championship race with Alexandra Balsalobre, Emilia Alvarez , Paola Llerandi, Carolina Portela and Daniela Puizina poised for a run at the team title. Godspeed to our Cross Country teams in this final race!
The Juvenile volleyball teams begin the meat of their league schedule. However, the Girls team posted a second place at the St. John’s tournament. Great job by Coach Raymond Lopez and his team of fighting Bulls! The boys showed they can compete with the upper echelon teams in the higher division by battling a very experienced Rosa-Bell squad at the San Ignacio tournament. We expect the boys to really make us proud this season!
In boys’ soccer, both the teams are currently undefeated, but have tough games to finish the regular season. The Varsity squad is 6-0-1 and the JV is 6-0-2 in league play. William Nader and Nickolas Cortese are spearheading the Bulls attack with crisp passes and show-stopping goals. The defense has been stout with our keeper Finbarr O’Donoghue, David Segarra, Charlie Laracy and Martin Camacho. On the JV, Jerry Sanchez, Santiago Noguera, and Carlos Diaz have had some great goals. On the defensive end Andrew Laracy, Alejandro Morgan and the goalie Jorge Diaz have been solid for the Maroon and White.
The Mini Volleyball teams have completed the league schedule and have posted close to .500 records. The teams showed great resiliency throughout the season and now are poised for a run through the tournament season. They began with eye stopping performances during the St. John’s tournament last weekend.
Let’s all get involved and continue to support our playoff bound teams. It’s a great day to be a Bull!!!!
Baldwin Invitational Volleyball Tournament
What a sensational weekend we had here at Baldwin! The tournament was a complete success. The festivities were highlighted by an exciting victory by the Varsity Boys over Providencia.
The Baldwin volleyball fans were treated to three days of competitive games held in the Pennock Field House and the outdoor courts. The outdoor courts were spectacular on Thursday evening when the lighted courts hosted a myriad of games to the delight of the fans and teams.
Our host teams fared very well against the tough competition with the Juvenile Girls and JV Boys reaching the finals. The Girls played Colegio Bautista de Carolina to a third set and almost pulled off an upset with scores of: 25-17, 22-25, 15-9. Veronica Ucros, Melanie Freiria, Alexandra Gonzalez, Paola Llerandi, Alanna Cruz and Fabiola Aviles all played with tenacity and made all of Baldwin very proud of their effort.
The boys, after taking the tough road of having to win four matches to win the final, fell to the Providencia Vikings with scores of: 25-14, 25-14. The JV team had to beat Commonwealth, Antilles Military and American Military before reaching the final. Joey Berezdivin, Frankie Davila, Jose Santiago, Carlos Bonnin, Michael Menda, Rene Llerandi and Ennio Vazquez showed the Baldwin faithful that we have great talent at the JV level.
The Juvenile Boys, JV Girls and Varsity Girls gave valiant efforts in defeat.
