The Guidance Office at Baldwin School is available to assist every student or parent with such concerns as occupational guidance, college placement, educational planning, and testing. Students may stop by the guidance office at any time or after school to schedule an appointment with me.
For the past 21 years I have been dedicated in trying to ensure that students get the proper college admission counseling in order to pursue their educational goals. It is never too early to begin planning a college education. Ideally, this process should begin in 9th grade. Becoming involved in of school clubs and activities, studying hard to get good grades as well as developing a passion for learning, and conducting enriching activities during your summers are some of the things students can engage in to get ready for the college admission process.
This can also be a stressful time for the student and the parents. The process can be somewhat complicated and time-consuming. Between regular school assignments and projects, and PSATs, SATs, College Board, and filling out applications, visiting universities to see which on is right for you, and finally making the correct decision with your child can seem a never-ending saga! Organization is the key to making sure that everything is done on time and accurately. It is important to keep constant communication with this office, the college or university admission staff and your parents. It is a complicated and somewhat tedious process, but a college education is worth it.
Our school has an excellent acceptance rate into competitive universities in Puerto Rico and abroad, and we all feel very proud of this. We encourage each and every one of you to stop by our office or feel free to call at (787) 720-2421 x. 212/217 to get any details or information about the college of your choice or tips as to how to get started. Remember it is never too early, and before you know it, that time is already here. We look forward to hearing from you.
Every year our students are accepted into top universities both on the island as well as abroad. Our standardized test scores are well above the national averages. Our middle/upper school students are tested every year to measure skills in academic areas that are important for success in college.
In 7th and 8th grade our students take Stanford Achievement Tests, in 9th through 11th grade they take PSAT /NMSQT tests, in the 11 th grade students also take the SAT during the second semester, and 12th grade students take SAT I and II as well as the PEAU, also known as the College Board exam. The scores that our students receive on these tests are carefully analyzed each year and help us to determine areas in which our students excel as well as those that need more emphasis and attention. The reports we receive also help us to compare ourselves with schools nationwide.
We are proud to report that our students generally excel and obtain results that allow them to be admitted into highly competitive universities (please see college acceptance reports for our last two graduating classes). In the graduating classes of 2007 and 2008 we had a total of 4 National Hispanic Recognition Program Finalists and 5 National Merit Scholarship Finalists.
