From the Guidance Office

The Guidance Office at Baldwin School is available to assist every student or parents with such concerns as career planning, college placement, educational planning, testing, and with social and academic needs. Students may stop by the guidance office at any time or after school to schedule an appointment with their counselor.

For the past 10 years I have been dedicated in trying to ensure that our students get the college education of their dreams.  It is never too early to begin planning a college education. Ideally, this process should begin in 9th grade. Becoming members of school clubs, studying really hard to get good grades, and getting involved in school activities are some of the things students can engage in to enrich their lives, and get ready for the “real world.”

This can also be a stressful time for the student and the parents.  The process can be somewhat complicated and time-consuming. Between regular school assignments and projects, and PSATs, SATs, College Board, and Profile examinations, filling out applications, visiting universities to see which on is right for you, and finally making the correct decision with your child can seem a never-ending saga! But that is what we’re here for.  We make sure that with all that you have going on in your personal life, you stay up to date and don’t fall behind on this process. Yes, it’s tedious, but a college education is worth it.

Our school has 100% acceptance rate into competitive universities in Puerto Rico and abroad, and we all feel very proud of this.  So we encourage each and every one of you to stop by our office or feel free to call at (787) 720-2421 x. 212/217 to get any details or information about the college of your choice or tips as to how to get started. Remember it is never to early, and before you know it, that time is already here. We look forward to hearing from you.

Every year our students are accepted into top universities both on the island as well as abroad. Our standardized test scores are well above the national averages. Our middle/upper school students are tested every year to measure skills in academic areas that are important for success in college.

In 7th and 8th grade our students take Metropolitan Achievement Tests (MAT 7), in 9th through 11th grade they take PSAT /NMSQT tests, in 12th grade students take SAT and College Board exams. The scores that our students receive on these tests are carefully analyzed each year and help us to determine areas in which our students excel as well as those that need more emphasis and attention. The reports we receive also help us to compare ourselves with schools nationwide.

We are proud to report that our students generally excel and obtain results that allow them to be admitted into highly competitive universities (please see college acceptance reports for our last two graduating classes). In the graduating classes of 2000 and 2001 we had a total of 9 National Hispanic Recognition Program Finalists, 3 National Merit Scholarship Finalists, and 3 students who obtained College Board Certificates for obtaining one of the top 100 scores in the College Board exam.
