PTO Yearly Activities

Welcome Breakfast
The welcome breakfast is typically held within the first or second week of school in Baldwin’s cafeteria. The PTO President and the Board member lay out the years’ upcoming events and offers the opportunity for parents to sign up to become involved in committees.

Innisbrook fundraiser
This event is the PTO’s largest fundraising event of the year. It is held annually in early September with a 3 - 4 week selling period. All students and teachers at Baldwin support this great event with kickoff pep rallies in the MS/US , Elementary, and Oxman Center courtyards The campus is decorated in accordance with the annual Innisbrook theme. The proceeds from this fundraiser go directly back into to the school, benefiting our teachers and students by providing classroom funding, playground equipment, science lab equipment, digital cameras and monetary support for a multitude of special events.

Baldwin Ex-Patriot Family Buddy System
The PTO has created a dynamic new program for the newly enrolled families at Baldwin called the “Ex-Pat Family Buddy System”. The philosophy behind this program is to connect current families with new ex-pat families to help them adjust to life on the Island. The host- families will help accommodate the incoming families by offering true-tested experience. Whether a family needs assistance navigating around the Island, locating a trusted Doctor, finding a reputable mechanic, acquiring home supplies, or just looking for a great beach spot for the weekend, they will have the support of another family just a phone call away to help them acclimate. There are approximately 20 new ex-pat families joining the Baldwin community this year, coming from South America, Europe, Mexico and the USA. The current families who are participating in this program have been very enthusiastic about reaching out to their new families and it is very rewarding for us to see this program in full swing!

Family Day
Family Day is Baldwin’s largest community building event of the year and is typically held on the last weekend in February. The theme this year was “Baldwin Pirates of the Caribbean” the campus was transformed into a Harbor town complete with the “ Black Pearl” ship, a Calabozo – jail for those nasty Buccaneers, huge inflatable pirate ships, face painting, tattooing, a fun treasure hunt ,delicious Caribbean food, also a performance by Grammy nominated “ Black Guayaba” who entertained the crowd for the afternoon, a great raffle with over 100 prizes, and much more. The day was a HUGE success and everyone had a great time.

Baldwin Family Nights
The PTO has been organizing Baldwin family nights for the past few years and the evenings are held at Fuddrukers in San Patricio. Three different nights are dedicated to this event for students, faculty and parents. The three evenings are typically split into appropriate grade levels: Elementary 1-3 , 4-6 and MS/US. The MS/US evening highlights the Baldwin school band students who put on a show displaying their amazing musical talents. It is a fun-filled evening and a favorite for the Whole Baldwin community.

Teacher Wish List
The Teacher Wish List is a very important program for the Baldwin school. The PTO asks each teacher in the school for a list of items they would like to have in their classroom to enhance the teaching experience and augment the classroom environment. The PTO Board members reviews the list and approves it with careful thought. It is a great privilege for the PTO to distribute these items: the whole Baldwin community makes it possible as a result of their contribution towards the Innisbrook fundraising event. Items purchased in the past have been DVD players, digital cameras, science lab equipment, Elementary and Oxman Center playground equipment, music equipment, reference books, computer software for the Library, LCD projectors, support in-house school programs like Math Bowl , Poetry Week and much more.

The Homeroom Mother Program
HRM program is a permanent program at Baldwin and organized by the PTO to assist all teachers in the Oxman Center and Elementary school. This program is very popular and extremely active, including 1-3 homeroom Mothers per classroom. The Homeroom Mothers organize all class parties, decorate the classroom depending on the time of year, help chaperone on field trips, and assist teachers with needs they may have throughout the year.

PTO Newsletter
The PTO newsletter has 4 publications per year, two per semester and is sent out to over 550 families, 100 teachers and administration. The newsletter focuses on the weekly campus activities for the Oxman Center, Elementary, MS/US and also features articles from the Headmaster, principles and gives teachers a chance to communicate information about their classroom activities throughout the school year. The PTO has a featured section discussing upcoming PTO events and committee updates. The newsletter serves as a communication vehicle to connect the Baldwin community as a whole.

“Sports Spirit” Committee
This committee is a newly formed group of very enthusiastic parents who created a mini booster club called “Sports Spirit”. This club works in conjunction with the Baldwin Athletic department to organize sports tournaments, banquets, raise donations for team uniforms, maintain a permanent sports kiosk, and support the Elementary school cheerleaders.

Donuts with Dad & Mallorcas with Mom
This is a special program that brings parents and their children together at breakfast-time in the Baldwin school cafeteria. Dads and Moms each have their turn to have a week-long opportunity to spend quality time with their children at school before classes begin. The “Donuts with Dad” runs the first week in October and “Mallorcas with Mom” in late April.

Back to School Nights
The PTO annually assists the principles from the Oxman Center, Elementary and MS/US with refreshments and snacks for their back to school nights

The Baldwin PTO is a very active group of dedicated volunteers who support many activities within the Baldwin community throughout the school year. All parents are enthusiastically welcomed!
