Socorrito Diaz is awarded the Annetta J. and Robert M. Coffelt Sr. and Robert M. Coffelt Jr. Fellowships
Socorrito Díaz Seijo our elementary level art teacher participated in the 2010 Teacher Institute titled Crosscurrents of American Art: Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries sponsored by the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.. Socorrito was awarded the Annetta J. and Robert M. Coffelt Sr. and Robert M. Coffelt Jr. fellowships and shared the work done in her classroom and her efforts in promoting a classroom with no boundaries through the program: A World United through Art. This program started as a result of her participation on the 1985 Teacher Institute and has hosted twelve art exchange exhibitions in countries such as Australia, United States, Thailand, and Puerto Rico. Socorrito was invited by Julie Springer, director of the Education Department of the National Gallery to share her work and experiences with this year’s participants.
As part of her attendance a year work plan document was developed titled Coffelt Fellowship Report Opening Our Eyes to Landscapes. This plan included the activities to be carried out during this school year. All the activities will be documented and presented to the National Gallery at the end of May 2011.
