hello and welcome back to part 3 of the parent orientation Series today we will focus on assessment approach reporting and conferences how will we know what we have learned we believe that through ongoing assessment feedback and reflection students parents and teachers can effectively make sound choices that will encourage and support continued to learning and growth we document and inform progress our focus is not on greeting it is on documenting progress in learning balance assessment approach we assess students in ways that are varied and balanced ongoing and frequent formal and informal quantitative and qualitative diagnostic formative and summative let's look into each student's to all kinds of different tasks that includes oral presentations videos to more pencil and paper test like quizzes or test every strategy is this how they are doing and how they are learning assessments need to be on going not isolated formal and informal we do have formal test and big projects class observations and though interactions are just as important and are considered when we are making decisions about future learning goals diagnostic is to see the prior knowledge skills that and the formative is the process that mountain look to what is happening and the summative is focused at the products at the end of a unit of inquiry good morning we have the mid-term report in October and parent-teacher conferences in October and as needed semester reports in January and June and student-led conferences in March to look into these more in math back you will find weekly or bi-weekly updates on assessment results depending the grade level the mid-term report is a general overview of progress this semester report is a detailed analysis of in the specific learner outcomes for each of the subject areas each report offers information in its own way the frequent updates on Mattis back are like the trees the mid-term report offers Forest View the semester report offers a look at both the forest and the trees the mid-term report provides a general update of the students progress in the middle of each cell this is published through managed back and it is a general update of the Learners progress in October and in March it is more General but does give important information now let's take a look at the mid-term report progress scale on the left you can see the always see see progress scale and on the right is an elementary progress scale these are the skills we use there is a slight friends because of the developmental stage of the Learners this might be a good time to pause so you can read it carefully and if you have any questions chop them down and have them ready for the Cuban the semester report provides detailed specific summary report of the students progress for that semester it is much more detailed with more specific learning outcomes in each of the subject areas this report of the students progress looks at the entire semester the one published in January is of the first semester and the one in June is from the second semester now let's take a look at the semester report development scale first year we see from pre-k to first grade take a moment to pause the video to read through the development next we have the developmental scale for the semester report for 2nd to 5th grade let's take a closer look please note before you pause that the number for me achieving is the one that is just grabbing that the learner has achieved their grade level expectation this is not a traditional grading scale it does not mean that the learner got a four out of five example that is not how these levels these are descriptive levels with numerical values as a code to abbreviate please no off or is it cheating the grade-level expectations it is usual to see different levels during the year if you want to pause now so that you can read through all of them do so if you have any questions you can jot them down and have them ready for the Cuban a now here we see Sanford scale from graves 2nd to 5th grade we also use the effort scale for the frequency of or how often a behavior or task is seen take a moment to pause the video so you can read through the scale conferences reporting in person we have parent-teacher conferences in October and as Mead and student-led conferences in March for the time conferences will be done in them but any changes in that will be informed you can ask for a meeting with the teacher as needed student-led conferences are in March and closer to the date we will find out more information and let's take a closer look to what student-led conferences are so what is it and what is it not a student-led conference is a moment of shared an opportunity for your child to show you what and how they learn at school it's their perspective is a celebration of their hard work is an opportunity to support encourage and reinforce your child's learning process in progress a student-led conference is not a parent-teacher conference the moment to criticize or excessively correct your child or something you can skip let's look more into this t-shirt learning with the learner and the parent in a formal academic setting the student-led conference is done appropriate to the Learners age and grade level it might look different in other grade levels I just got a moment where the teacher is letting you know how the learner is doing teachers work with the students during the year to prepare them for the student-led conference they are sharing your perspective on learning and it is important to appreciate it you should not skip this conference I understand but we will try to do what's possible for you to be there to support your child thank you for your attention remember if you have any
