Psychologist Alexandra Ramos Duchateau, Ph.D. will return as our guest speaker.

The conference is designed to improve everyday communication between parents and their children. Topics covered are relevant for parents of young children, pre-teens, and teens. The content focuses on children´s perceptions and complaints about the ways parents talk to them, with the aim to help parents gain a better understanding of how to be effective and respectful communicators. Common complaints such as: “They are annoying, they don’t know anything, they don’t understand me”, will be discussed. Common pitfalls in communication will also be examined, and how these pitfalls often lead to breakdowns in communication. We will discuss communication skills including empathy, validation of emotions, problem solving, coping with anger, behavioral strategies to improve communication, and effective verbal discipline, among others.
