Update from the Headmaster

Dear Baldwin families,

In Friday's Campus Connection, we posted some calendar updates. To clarify, we are not yet done adjusting our calendar for lost time. We are unable to reclaim every lost day; we will do what we can. Further updates will be made in the coming weeks, and may include changes to currently scheduled days off, Spring Break, and the end of year. We have also shifted or eliminated non-curricular activities so as to expand instructional hours in the original calendar.

We have made some changes to the first semester. For the most part, we are preserving our holiday breaks as scheduled, and for many reasons. We want to normalize as soon as possible. This is important psychologically for children and adults. Our staff have been putting in overtime, first to bring the school on line, and then to get things back in order. Many families schedule trips well in advance, and we don't want to create an additional conflict to manage at this difficult time. The considerable daily operational costs associated with our generators, and wear and tear due to continuous operation, warrant a second semester focus for calendar changes. Like you, we hope electricity and other services normalize sooner than later, but we must plan for every contingency.

Our staff are committed to ensuring that your children are fully supported and and thriving academically. We are all managing our "new normal", and we appreciate the trust you place in us.

James
