Students Reflect on Puerto Rico: Then & Now

The Baldwin Senior Class recently visited the Photographic Exhibition of Jack Delano at the Ponce Museum of Art.  The Puerto Rican History class then did a project inspired by the great work of Jack Delano. Students were to take a current photo related to Puerto Rico, search for a similar old photo that is at least 30 years old, and compare them.

Presented in class, the students reflected on development in Puerto Rico, what causes change, what stays the same, and why.... culminating in a discussion about social problems, culture, and identity.

Seniors did an excellent job capturing current real situations with black and white photography and reflecting on how Puerto Rico has changed. They also practiced the skill of analyzing primary sources and learned to value the importance of photographs as historic documents.
