Baldwin School Poetry Out Loud Contest

The English department invites you to the Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest.  The competition, presented in partnership with The Institute of Puerto Rican Culture (ICP), the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation, is part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance, and competition.

This will be the first time that Baldwin School will compete in this English language event for students in 9th – 12th grade in the United States and Puerto Rico. This is a great opportunity for us to experience the joy of poetry and its performance. Baldwin students in 9th – 12th grade are encouraged to participate in the competition. Contestants select 2 poems from the Poetry Out Loud website to memorize and recite.

The winner of this Baldwin competition will advance to the island – wide Puerto Rico Poetry Out Loud contest.  The Puerto Rico champion will advance to the Poetry Out Loud National Finals on April 28‐29, 2015 in Washington, DC, where $50,000 in awards and school stipends will be distributed.
