Community Service in Action

Receptive minds that catch ideas and make them come true are necessary and we have them in our school. I want to immensely thank, all of the pieces that made this Reforestation come true:

Mrs. Nakachi thank you for opening your students to the possibility of seeing they can solve real life proposed problems. Mrs. Carolina Casas for creating the announcement, coordinating the refreshments, funding letter, and coordinating the community service time, during the activity. To Trudy Pennock, thank you for helping us find support companies. Patricia del Cueto and Sarina Green, for our school news. To Ines Muñiz and the SHPE Club, for always being there for the environment. To Elena Camilo, our angel at the Pepsi Co. you always exceed our expectations; thank you for the refreshments, coolers and ice. To Dr. Angel Torres, the director of “Programa de Escuelas Sustentables” for announcing and making possible the participation of other schools. Mrs. Elimari Sanchez, for listening, giving us the space to develop these ideas and participating with us in our adventures.  Mr. Nelligan, thank you for helping us with the safety, transportation and development of this idea. I am so proud of the Members of the Environmental Club for accepting and working on this challenge.  I thank all the teachers, spouses, students and parents that woke up on a Saturday to serve your community. Dr. Mayra Martinez and husband Felix Vega and the Biologist Manuel Sepulveda our contacts at the “Programa Para La Naturaleza” for donating and arranging the proper placement these trees. Dr. Teci Ramirez, for inviting the students of Academia San Ignacio, the Boys Scout troops that participated and were there during steps of this process. Mr. Edwin Ramos and Edna Alvarado from the Guaynabo municipality, thank you for your patience and accepting the ideas and changes that occurred in the way. City Mayor Hector O’Neill for letting the students be part of your reforestation process and for providing the tools to make it come true.  Dr. Yanira Pagan, thank you for being the wind beneath our wings.

On October 22 of 2016, 290 native and endemic trees that will attract birds, butterflies and bats, were planted by our future generation and their parents.

Dreams do come true!
