"As a sophomore, I still have a lot of doubts about what I want to focus on for college/university, but talking with someone who came from the same background as us, was really eye-opening. While Maritza was telling her story, she really emphasized how in most cases, you will end up slowly getting to know a different variety of topics and careers that interest you as you experience them more first hand. It was nice to also learn about a career that is so important and fun yet not a lot of people even consider it because of their lack of knowledge in the field. Overall, I really enjoyed this experience, and I hope we can talk to some more alumni in the future." - Natalia Amaro

"I really enjoyed connecting with my Baldwin family today. I miss Puerto Rico and absolutely loved my time as a student at Baldwin. I wish I could’ve had time to talk to the other alumni." -Maritza Mercado '00

"In today’s career day activity, I learned that despite the wishes of others around you, you should follow your own passions. At first, you may not know exactly what you will do for the rest of your life, but it is important to be persistent and keep moving forward until you find it." - Gloria Mancera

"From the career day activity, I got the opportunity to listen to someone’s experience about what they studied to become what they are today. This activity taught me that experience is important to grow and how you should do something that brings you joy as passion is your motivation to continue on. I enjoyed Career day as it helped me gain more knowledge to start thinking about what I want to do for my future." - Ema Lopez

"In the Career Day activity, I was able to learn many things from chef Andre Gomez. Andre taught me the importance of doing what you truly love. In addition, Andre also explained that when creating a business it is important to get experience beforehand. Taking advantage of opportunities granted to you will definitely help you succeed in the future once you start creating a project of your own. Moreover, he shared with the group how Covid has affected his business. In order to prevent getting coronavirus people are no longer going out to restaurants. To keep the business running Andre has begun creating his own sauces and selling merchandise. From this, I was able to learn that when having a business there will always be challenges that you have to surpass. It is beneficial to be open-minded as you will be able to come up with creative and successful solutions that will help you surpass the obstacles presented to you." - Andrea Perez

"I was able to learn how it’s important to follow your passions and always believe in yourself. Also how it is ok to make changes to your plans and find your real path later than you thought." - Cecilia Soto

"Today’s Career day activity was very eye-opening, I learned a lot within such a short time from Angelica Soto, primarily that things are always subject to change, and even if I were to know what I wanted to pursue in the future, nothing is set in stone. Additionally, she taught me another important factor in relation to career choice or path, this being perseverance: with such, I can and will accomplish whatever I set my mind to! I really enjoyed this opportunity and hope others did so as well." - Lia Bermudez

"Some of the things that I was able to learn from this activity was not only the fact that maybe what we have in mind for our careers isn't exactly what our future wants for us; but also that opportunities are always given and it is up to us, to do our best for them to come." - Nayma Carballo
