Honoring Our Faculty & Staff Retirees

We honor our faculty and staff members who retired at the end of this school year.

️⭐️ Mercedes Escribá (1987 - 2023) 36 years
Mrs. Mercedes Escribá’s legacy at Baldwin is impressive, reaching so many students in so many ways. Her impact has been significant from the very start back in the ‘80s building the Dino with her first third graders, through the many years presenting the Opera and sharing her passion for teaching mathematics and writing. Mrs. Escribá has worked tirelessly for our students to have engaging and varied opportunities for learning. Not to mention participating enthusiastically with the 3rd grade team’s iconic costumes for the Halloween parade much to the delight of our students and faculty.

️️⭐️ Ceida Fernández (1989-2023) 34 years
We bid farewell to Ceida, who is leaving Baldwin after 34 years of service. Ceida has been a beacon of inspiration and admiration for her fellow teachers and students. She always went the extra mile to ensure that her students were well prepared for college work while always making them feel valued, supported and loved. With her patience, boundless love for teaching, and unending thirst for knowledge, she made her classroom a place where students learned to cultivate a genuine love for the Spanish language and literature. Ceida also tirelessly prepared with great success many of her students for the rigor of AP and DP exams. For many years Ceida led the M/US Spanish department, where she fostered a spirit of collaboration and excellence. Adios querida Ceida, siempre guardaremos un lugar especial en nuestros corazones solo para tí!

️⭐️️ Mercedes Nakachi (1989 -2023) 34 years
Mrs. Nakachi has dedicated her life to educating children, and we are so blessed that for over three decades, the Baldwin community has been her home. Mrs. Nakachi teaches and lives immersed in creativity, kindness, patience and love. Her joy for learning is contagious and inspiring, consistently prompting students and colleagues alike to think more deeply and reflect more authentically. Mrs. Nakachi is the best of us in being a role model, and mentor and giving selflessly to generations of Baldwin students, families and colleagues.

️⭐️️  Yvonne Fortuño (2002-2023) 21 years
Mrs. Fortuño is retiring after 21 years of service at Baldwin. She tried to retire last year; however, when she learned that we could not find a replacement for her position, her characteristic sense of responsibility led her to accept staying with us one more year. We are truly grateful for her loyalty, dedication, strong work ethic, and commitment to her students and their well-being. Yvonne will be missed, but we know she has many plans for a joyful and fruitful retirement.

️⭐️️ Juan José ‘Pacha’ Pacheco (2002-2023) 21 years
Pacha arrived at Baldwin in 2002 as a lifeguard and soccer coach! His many hats worn at Baldwin included Summer Camp Director for over 5yrs! As a beloved PE Coach his “Happy Today” made students feel welcome and cared for! On the soccer pitch, his teams exemplified grit, passion and courage. We will always remember you Coach Pacha, we will continue to yell: “FRITANGA!” Before every match and when someone asks where did that come from, the stories that we will be able to tell…

️⭐️️  Guillermo Rivera (2002 - 2023) 21 years

Congratulations to all, you will be greatly missed!!
