Art Week 2014

Many celebrations took place during these 3 days. For the first time the art works from students’ 1st – 12th grade were displayed in one primary venue, the Visual & Performing Arts Center, with additional pieces displayed at the Elementary School Art room. This allowed our guests to appreciate a progression of skills and techniques throughout. The cocktail reception was held on April 29th and parents and students alike were awed at the array of talent Baldwin has to offer. Two upper school students, Gil Cohen and Laura Jaramillo, delighted the crowd with their voice and piano performance.

In addition to celebration our students’ talents, our OECC and Elementary School students were celebrating a VERY important birthday…Girafo’s Birthday!! This year marks the 10th anniversary of Girafo’s creation and of our students falling in love with this character. As always, our OECC students had their exhibit displayed on the walls of the OECC, and Jorge Zeno visited them on Tuesday, April 29th to make a live painting of Girafo and sing happy Birthday.

And how could we not mention our dear Uncle Andy from Korea? Through Socorrito’s cultural exchange program and our Friendship flower creation, Uncle Andy has become a beloved teacher, mentor and friend to our OECC and Elementary School students. During the final day of our Art Exhibit, our 1st – 4th grade students skyped with Uncle Andy to culminate the celebration and also sing Happy Birthday to Girafo with Jorge Zeno and Uncle Andy. Through this exchange, our amazing Friendship Flower mural made entirely from bottle caps came to life. Countless hours and help from parents, teachers and students made this amazing masterpiece possible.

To our AMAZING art teachers: Socorrito Díaz (OECC / Elementary) and Sofía Vizcarrondo and Coqui Santiago (MS / US) for their hard work, dedication and passion for teaching our students and guiding them to create such beautiful works of art...THANK YOU!!
