4th graders create their own non-profit company

4th graders, inspired by their units on systems and the economy, chose to develop their own non profit company, which they named HAP - Helping All People. They wrote their own business plan, elected officials, and decided on what their product would be.  They created their own advertising, wrote emails to coordinate parent's help, and thanked them afterwards. This same group also prepares, sells, and cleans up after their activities. For each bi monthly sale, they predict what they will make as profit, prepare a change box, and count all the money. Every other Wednesday, HAP holds a bake sale at the elementary school, selling brownies, lemonade, and popcorn. These enthusiastic entrepreneurs will send all of the profits to a charity of their choice at a later date.
