OECC students took a field trip to Museo de Arte at the beginning of their discussion of the Transdisciplinary Theme: "How We Express Ourselves". They were beginning to recognize different styles of art (representational, abstract) and were able to identify and enjoy paintings, sculptures, murals and installations.
At the end of the learning unit, they took a field trip to the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo. They focused on the central idea that art communicates an idea and engages with its audience. As they have become sensitive and perceptive viewers of art, the students appreciated the experience of meeting an artist and hearing how the art was made and learning what message was trying to be communicated. At the end of the experience, each student selected his or her favorite piece of art.
