Pick Up and Drop Off Procedures

Our faculty and staff have assigned parking on campus. These spots are designated with a "reserved" sign located at curb level of each assigned spot. The lot in front of the administrative building, the one adjacent to the Middle and Upper School (MUS), and the one next to the OECC, are reserved lots. There are no available spaces in these lots. The lots in front of the VPAC and opposite the soccer field have available parking. However, please avoid parking in reserved spaces at anytime prior to 4pm. Parking in these spaces prevent faculty and staff from attending to their duties.

Pedestrians are asked to use sidewalks at all times. Please avoid walking across driving lanes during pick-up and drop off times. Crossing areas are clearly marked near drop zones.

There are two main drop off/pick up points on campus: (1) the main (lower gate) and (2) the back/upper gate (near the soccer field). We would prefer that you drop off all of your children at only one of the two gates, rather than enter the queue at both gates.

At the main gate, there are two designated lanes. The lane closest to the sidewalk is an elementary (E) lane, intended for parents with only or predominately elementary school children. The outer lane is a middle/high school (MH) lane, intended for families with exclusively middle and/or high school students. Each of these lanes are marked with E and MH respectively. The back/upper gate (near the soccer field) has a single lane designated for elementary (E). While middle and upper school students can be dropped off at the back gate, we would prefer they be dropped off at the front gate. DO NOT unload small children in the (MH) lane...it puts them at risk.

When either dropping off or picking up your student(s), pull forward to the forward-most available spot. Faculty are available at both gates during both morning drop off and afternoon pick up. Faculty will assist your child both in and out of the car. We ask that you remain in your car. If you choose to help your children, please be quick about it. Drop off is not a time for extended child care or discussion. We will ensure your child safely exits or enters your car with their supplies/backpack.

Once you have dropped off or picked up your child(ren), if you are doing so at the lower main gate, please exit out of the gate next to the guard shack after circling the lot. If you are dropping off or picking up your child at the back/upper gate, you will exit that gate. Gates will be open from 7:45-8:30am, and 2:45-3:30pm each school day. If your student(s) is running late, you will be directed to move forward and re-enter the queue (driving pattern). Please do so safely and without delay.

Quick rules of thumb:

  1. Please stay in the queue as directed by security and faculty.
  2. Wait your turn. Please be patient.
  3. When directed to move forward, please move as far forward as is safely possible to allow the greatest number of cars in the loading zone.
  4. If your child is not immediately ready for drop off or pick up, please circle back around rather than block access to the pick up area.
  5. Do not park in assigned spaces, including teacher and senior spaces.
  6. Please be thoughtful of our neighbors. Do not block driveways, especially near the entrance to the back/upper gate.
  7. Please do not drop off students by the steps that lead to Middle and Upper School.
  8. Do not honk your horn on or near campus.
  9. Do not use your cell phones while driving on campus at any time.

We will need everyone's help to make this work, so I am calling on the better angels of our nature. Everyone is deserving of respect. You are reminded that Baldwin has a Civility Policy described in detail in the Parent-Student Handbook. Please keep in mind that our teachers and security staff are only trying to help and that you are a role model! Safety is our first priority.
