hello and welcome to part one of the parent orientation series the focus today will be on Baldwin IV Journey pyp velocity and approach and the pyp elements and framework let's start with the acronyms there are lots of acronyms and Munch Cavallari in the IP let's start with IB which stands for international Baccalaureate IB is an international educational nonprofit organization that supports schools by providing curricular and framework pyp primary years program which is the program from pre-k to 5th grade these two are the ones you will hear the most and others will African students teachers and parents learn how to use it effectively with time and practice let's look into the pyp journey at Baldwin primary years program pre pre Kinder and fifth grade we became a candidate School in June of 2013 we became an authorized pyp World School in March of 2016 and the coordinator is Janet the middle years program which is from 6 to 10 grades became an authorized nyp World School in December of 2016 the coordinator is Vasquez which is from 11 to 12 grade became an authorized DP World School in January of 2017 the coordinator and director of studies is loud in my study Baldwin became if IB Continuum School in that year now let's take a look into the fire recipe and practice philosophy and practice that permeates all three programs includes the following characteristics for elements this is the core for the heart of the IB Program leave in a constructivist approach to teaching and learning in green driven concept-based we look into the letter profile approaches to learning and International mindedness the constructivist approach to learning and teaching and learning with learner builds knowledge understanding and skill through exploration and interaction with the learning environment and community so this means that it's Hands-On student-centered active and sometimes a bit messy which is great he's also encouraged ribbon Learners are encouraged to be curious creatively and are taught how to investigate and question in order to learn more Salerno's can ask themselves how can I be a curious person look into what is concept based learning Universal Concepts that connect ideas and knowledge developing understanding across subject areas so it looks like content example of the American Revolution and related Concepts station or conflict another example dinosaurs polar bears Extinction endangered species so concepts are Broad and give us a lens to be able to analyze synthesize and connect knowledge and information within subject areas and across subject areas International Intermatic International mindedness is a view of the world in which people see themselves connected to the global community and assume a sense of responsibility towards its members the learner profile and the approach provide the dispositions and foundational skills for the development and demonstration of international mindedness the learning community and Visions creates articulates and models picture of international mindedness and internationally minded learner takes action for positive change the pyp is characterized by a transducer by Upper Room learning that looks different in the other program for example nyp is interdisciplinary NDP is disciplinary knowledge there are six transdisciplinary theme worked on throughout the p r i p gray level 6 from first to fifth grade and four in the early years Pre-K to kinder use consists of who we are how we express ourselves how the world Works how we organize ourselves where we are in place in time and sharing the planet who we are and how express ourselves must do things for all grade levels conceptual understanding CR7 key Concepts function change Asian connection responsibility and perspective conflict Community culture consequences relationships action persuasion to connect knowledge across subject areas as we do when we face complex problems in our daily lives we develop conceptual understanding as explained previously concepts are Universal are and are not specific to time or space they interact with each of these Concepts and the related concept unlimited or example form is what is it like for example a war and the related Concepts can be complex these are only examples with class discussion students can see mccorley in the py being there is 70 consoles that help her sprained and understand the information they are exploring like I mentioned concept serves as a lens through which to add why is new information a problem or is The Chew a shin skills their subjects Pacific and approaches to learning there are five transdisciplinary ATL categories communication thinking research social and self-management the ATL's are part of the core of the IB programs with the 5 category being consistent in the three programs traits and dispositions of a lifelong learner profile there are 10 traits balanced caring communicator knowledgeable in career principled open-minded reflective and thinker now they are attitudes that go along with the learner profile and there are twelve of them of mind and behavior appreciation Corporation curiosity creativity confidence commitment Embassy enthusiasm Independence Integrity respect and tolerance learner profile traits and attitudes are explored in an integrated manner through the units of increased literature collaborative test self-reflection and daily interactions be right be adamant let's review knowledge by 6 transmission transdisciplinary themes approaches to learning and subject specific skills Runner file an attitude and understanding developed by key and related Concepts which all lead to action an agency all of these are woven together to develop agency and ownership students action of their learning take steps toward grow and contributing to the local and Global community here you see a pic created by managebac that shows ways to take action upon learning to pause to see
