Welcome from the Head of School

“Students are the heart of our school.”

Everyone who works in a school has their own personal reason that brings them to – and keeps them in – the field of education.  For me, it is the joy of working with young people and families, and the powerful work we have the opportunity to engage in with teachers and professionals in the field, both inside and outside the classroom. I have never wavered in my sense that education is my life’s work, and I have never been more compelled by a school than by The Baldwin School.

As you peruse these “pages,” you will find descriptions of the rigor and vigor of our curriculum that has been crafted over many years, of our students’ accomplishments and accolades, and of a rich array of programs that are a product of the school’s spirit of innovation. I hope you will also get a sense of the joyful engagement of a PPK-12 community where three-year-olds through young adults learn and play together on a 23 acre tropical and diverse campus, where they learn to understand, respect, and enjoy one another.

While you will find here lists and facts that describe our incredible institution, I was struck during my first actual visit to campus by the community’s energy and sense of purpose. At Baldwin, learning is vigorously pursued, and a buzz is felt in every corner, classroom, lab, courtyard, and field, due to exceptional faculty, talented students, excellent facilities, and a world-class curriculum. It is within that group of people that we instill courage. While not our founding inspiration, it is a James Baldwin quote, “Not everything that is faced can be changed; but nothing can be changed until it is faced” that I see informs our efforts to discover and nurture every student’s passion to learn and to do good. Alongside a thorough investigation of traditions and questions about our world, we seek to provide a platform for exploration and achievement to change Puerto Rico and the world.

We welcome you to our site, we encourage you to visit us, and invite you to come and see Baldwin for yourself. It is truly special.

"Baldwin truly is a family, a place where teachers care for students beyond grades and academic performances and where students are not afraid to voice their opinions. It is a place of mutual respect between all members of the community, and where teamwork is fostered instead of competition."
