Welcome from the Headmaster

On behalf of the staff, faculty, administration, and Board of the Baldwin School of Puerto Rico, I extend our warmest welcome.

Baldwin is the premier independent, PPK-12, college preparatory English language day school in Puerto Rico. Located in the greater San Juan metropolitan area, Baldwin offers a beautiful and spacious twenty-three acre campus, certified as a national wildlife habitat.  We have spectacular facilities, including our Visual and Performing Arts Center, swimming pool, tennis courts, field house, outdoor courts, soccer field, and science trail. We provide a rigorous academic program that prepares students for the world's elite public and private universities and colleges. Our children are challenged to become creative thinkers, problem solvers, effective communicators, ethical leaders, and culturally aware citizens who positively impact our diverse world. At Baldwin, values matter.

Baldwin students participate in dozens of co-curricular activities. Our athletes compete as individuals and as teams at mini (grades 4-5), youth (intermediate), junior varsity, and varsity levels through the Liga Atletica Mini de Escuelas Privadas and the Puerto Rico High School Athletic Alliance. Our students also compete as academic teams in mathematics and science. Baldwin students are actively involved in the Model United Nations program and Science Bowl at the national level. Campus life includes opportunities to participate in many clubs and organizations, most of which serve our broader community through both service and donations of tens of thousands of dollars annually.

What truly sets Baldwin apart is its family feel. Our faculty and staff deeply care for our students, as evidenced by the relationships they form with your children. Our students are friendly and welcoming, and rally to support each other. Our active Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) sponsors numerous family events throughout the year that further support our robust community.

The Baldwin School of Puerto Rico is one of the world's elite preparatory schools. We are authorized as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP), Middle Years Program (MYP), and Diploma Program (DP). IB is the gold standard in college preparatory education, and we are proud to be the first authorized program in Puerto Rico's history.

We are now raising funds for an Innovation Center, intended to be our playground for aspiring scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs. The Innovation Center will also offer a digital age secondary school library, and will allow us to completely redesign our current library spaces as an elementary literacy lab. We overhauled our electronic infrastructure to support the deployment of iPads from PPK-8. We boast high-speed wireless that matches or exceeds capabilities available at the best colleges and universities. We employ a variety of educational software in support of literacy and numeracy in our Primary Years Program.

The Baldwin School of Puerto Rico is an International Baccalaureate Continuum School. We are members of the Caribbean Association of Independent Schools, the National Association of Independent Schools, and are accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. We also hold memberships in the National Federation of High Schools and the National Interscholastic Athletics Administrators Association.

We believe that every child can flourish if they are given the right combination of time, opportunity, and support. We are excited to share our vision of learning and community with you.

James Nelligan

"Baldwin truly is a family, a place where teachers care for students beyond grades and academic performances and where students are not afraid to voice their opinions. It is a place of mutual respect between all members of the community, and where teamwork is fostered instead of competition."

"I will always remember [Mr. Nelligan's] contagious happiness and concern for others. Whether it was making sure a student was alright...or motivating his students to strive for success, he cares."
